England bowlers have been 'lackadaisical', says Saker

Broad endured a frustrating day at Lord's, shipping 98 runs from 26 overs

England's bowling coach David Saker has told his pace attack to raise their game against Sri Lanka at Lord's.

After their collapse in Cardiff, the tourists responded with 372-3 and Saker has called on Chris Tremlett, Steven Finn and Stuart Broad to improve.

"The danger for a cricketer is disrespecting the game," Saker said.

"When you have good days, you sometimes become lackadaisical. If you do that in this game, it has a habit of biting you on the bottom pretty quickly."

He added: "It is more a subconscious thing - when you're bowling a side out for 80, you think it's just going to happen again.

"Cricketers and people in general sometimes take things for granted. I do not think we did that; I just thought our execution was not as good as it has been, and the opposition played very well."

England hope to welcome back the injured James Anderson for the third and final Test at the Rose Bowl after the Lancashire seamer indicated he should be fit in time.

"We have got a programme in place and hope Jimmy can get enough bowling in to be put up for selection," said Saker.

"We are hoping to get him back, but I don't think we should be hiding behind Jimmy's absence here.

"We should be better than that. We set higher standards, and just to lose one player and bowl the way we did - I don't think that is excusable."
