Virender Sehwag selected for England tour

Sehwag has scored 7694 runs in 87 Test matches

Opening batsman Virender Sehwag has recovered sufficiently from a shoulder injury to take his place in the India Test squad for the tour of England.

The 32-year-old pulled out of playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League in May to have surgery.

Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan, Sreesanth and Yuvraj Singh all return after missing the current tour of the West Indies.

The four-Test series begins at Lord's on 21 July.

For Tendulkar, what is likely to be his last tour of England will present the opportunity to score a 100th international century.

The 38-year-old, who first toured England in 1990, has scored 51 hundreds in Test matches and 48 in one-day internationals.

He asked to rest during the West Indies tour, while batsmen Gambhir (shoulder), Yuvraj (lung infection) and pace bowlers Zaheer (ankle) and Sreesanth (elbow) were all unfit for the trip to the Caribbean.

Batsman Abhinav Mukund, who made his debut in the first Test against West Indies, keeps his place along with Suresh Raina but Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli miss out.

Another debutant from the Caribbean, Praveen Kumar, is included as part of the seam attack, while Wriddhiman Saha edges Parthiv Patel for the right to act as captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's wicketkeeping understudy.

India are currently ranked as the world's number one Test-playing nation, two places above England.
