Somerset's Kieswetter & Hildreth hit tons against Notts

Craig Kieswetter and James Hildreth scored centuries as Somerset recovered from 48-4 on day one against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Stuart Broad (2-75) took a wicket in his second over but toiled after, Andre Adams (2-74) and Luke Fletcher (1-56) were also amongst the wickets.

Kieswetter (151 not out) and Hildreth (137) then put on a record 290 for Somerset's fifth wicket against Notts.

Broad got rid of Hildreth just before stumps as Somerset closed on 341-5.

After being dropped for England's final one-day international with Sri Lanka on Saturday, Broad's position in the Test squad is under scrutiny, especially after Tim Bresnan's four-wicket haul on day one of Yorkshire's Championship match with Worcestershire.

Kieswetter has now scored 323 runs at Trent Bridge this season in three different competitions.

After making 100 in Somerset's CB40 victory in Nottingham in April, the wicketkeeper smashed an unbeaten 72 in England's 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in last week's one day international.

Hildreth's and Kieswetter's partnership beat the previous fifth-wicket best of 210 against Notts, set by Hildreth with Jos Buttler at Taunton last season.

"To get round here and get a few runs on the board is a really good feeling.

"They bowled really well but we had a bit of luck, a lot of play and misses but you take that.

"We just tried to spend some time in the middle for the first hour until lunch then just tried to play our normal game and lucky for us it came off nicely."

"The size of that fifth-wicket stand was a great effort and both will have delighted Geoff Miller here watching.

"Kieswetter got a right going over from Broad at this ground 15 months ago and his score goes a long way to showing his maturity as a player since.

"Notts were frustrated as some fielding wasn't as sharp as it should have been."

"I thought his first spell with the new ball was excellent and he bowled pretty well throughout the day to be honest.

"I think he will be reasonably happy with his day's work.

"It's up to people to write or say what they want. If you play for England you have to accept criticism if you are not right at the top of your game.

"Stuart has suffered a little bit in comparison to Anderson and Tremlett in the Sri Lankan series.

"For the first time in his England career his position is under a bit more threat than normal."
