Murray Goodwin scored a century to help Sussex secure a FL t20 home quarter-final berth against Lancashire.
A late collapse of four wickets in the last two overs gave the home side a scare, as they recorded 178-8.
Surrey started their reply strongly as Jason Roy scored a fast 50 but, after his dismissal by Ollie Rayner, the innings bogged down.
Tom Maynard was out for 46 and Surrey ended 11 runs short on on 167-7 and miss out on qualifcation in fifth.
