Division Two leaders Northants bowled Glamorgan out for 252 on a fruitful first day in Swansea.

Only Stewart Walters offered prolonged resistance for the hosts with an unbeaten 81 as wickets fell regularly.

Spinner James Middlebrook ended with 4-63 for Northants, while veteran Sri Lankan seamer Chaminda Vaas took 3-50.

Middlebrook's figures were his best since joining Northants from Essex ahead of the 2010 season.

"At the end of the first day Northants were in a commanding position and they were 67 without loss - 35 to Mal Loye, 28 to Stephen Peters. They trail Glamorgan by 185.

"Glamorgan were bowled out for a disappointing 252, the only innings of note coming from Stewart Walters who made 81. He and Mike Powell put on 84 for the fourth wicket. Powell was the next top scorer with 39 while Alviro Petersen made 33.

"James Middlebrook, the visitors off-spinner, was their best bowler he took 4-63."
