David Willey agrees new Northants deal

Willey's best Twenty20 figures are 3-9 against Worcestershire in 2009

Northants all-rounder David Willey has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2013.

The 21-year-old has become a Twenty20 regular at the County Ground, taking 27 wickets and averaging 13 with the bat in 39 matches.

He has also made 14 first class and 26 40-over appearances since breaking into the team in 2009.

"I'm Northants through and through, so this is fantastic news. I'm very happy," he said.

"I've had three years at the club already and to be able to extend for another two years is brilliant.

"Over the next couple of years I would like to break through into the Championship first XI and develop my game further so I become a permanent member of the team in all forms of the game."

Head coach David Capel added: "David is a talented young player who has been developing well over the past couple of years.

"I see David as an integral part of Northamptonshire cricket's future and I'm sure he will be a vital cog in pushing the club on to bigger and better things.

"He has already performed well in one-day cricket, and I look forward to seeing David get better and better in the first class game."

Willey is the son of former England all-rounder, turned umpire, Peter Willey.
