Somerset look to end 'deja vu' on FL t20 finals day

Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose says it is time for his players to "learn how to win".

His side meet Hampshire in the semi-finals of the FL t20 on Saturday, the third time they have reached finals day in as many seasons.

They finished runners-up to Sussex in 2009 and narrowly lost out to Hampshire at the Rose Bowl last season.

"You've got to win when it actually counts," Rose told BBC Points West. "That's a learning curve for the team."

He added: "I think we are bit more relaxed than last year. That was such a heavy experience, it took a month or two to get it out of the system.

"We've got a bit more nous about us this year and we're a little bit more relaxed about life and I think that may help."

Having finished as runners-up in all domestic competitions last season, they find themselves in with a chance to go one step further this year.

The 2005 Twenty20 winners are still in contention for the Division One title as well as being involved in both one-day competitions.

"The whole season is like deja vu from last season," said Rose. "It's pretty unusual.

"I've been there myself as a captain and you can plan as much as you like but somehow it either works or it doesn't. I'm always believing in fate these days.

"I had many people in my team that on the day can win a match for you and could do it in finals. That's what we'll find out about the troops now."

Captain Marcus Trescothick believes the team must go out at Edgbaston looking to right the wrongs from last season, starting on Saturday.

"A lot of people don't believe you can win all three," he said. "But it's clear to see that if you do the hard work you can give yourself opportunities to do so. It's a fantastic achievement.

"Hopefully the team and the backroom staff have learned from what happened last time and we can go one step further."

Murali Kartik has been passed fit to play after recovering from a torn gluteal muscle.

Somerset squad: Trescothick (capt), Kieswetter, Trego, Hildreth, Pollard, Buttler, Suppiah, Meschede, Gregory, Thomas, Kartik, Compton, Kirby, Dockrell.
