"An inspired spell of bowling from Stuart Meaker turned the second day on its head at Wantage Road.
"Meaker took four wickets in seven balls without conceding a run as Northamptonshire went from 178-3 to 194 all out in the afternoon session. Meaker bowled with pace and hostility and finished with deserved career-best figures of 5-37.
"His efforts meant Surrey led by 75 and Steven Davies then guided Surrey to 115-3 at stumps - a lead of 190 heading into the third day for Surrey and a fascinating conclusion to this critical game in prospect."
