England batsman Jonathan Trott has signed a contract extension with Warwickshire tieing him to the county until the end of the 2015 season.

The 30-year-old International Cricket Council player of the year has been at Edgbaston since 2002.

Director of cricket Ashley Giles said: "Jonathan has made a massive impact at Warwickshire since joining the club.

"It's a great boost that he's committed to playing his county cricket here at Edgbaston for the foreseeable future."

Trott made his England debut at The Oval in the final Ashes Test of the 2009 series, scoring 119 in the second innings to help Andrew Strauss's side regain the Ashes, and has gone on to make the vital number three spot his own.

He has hit five further centuries since then - two of them doubles - and played all five Tests in Australia last winter when England retained the Ashes with a 3-1 victory.

Trott's England and Wales Cricket Board central contract means that his appearances for Warwickshire are limited, and he only played three Championship matches last summer.

But Giles told the county's website that having him and international team-mate Ian Bell on the staff was a plus for the club.

"Having two of the world's top 10 batsmen training here with the squad since we started our pre-season programme has been great for the younger members. Both are fantastic role models," he said.

Trott described his decade at Edgbaston as "fantastic", adding: "We've got an exciting young squad that's capable of challenging for trophies, an experienced and innovative coaching team, and some of the best facilities in world cricket.

"I'm looking forward to many more years here."
