Nottinghamshire's James Taylor targets England Test spot

Taylor has impressed while on England Lions duty

Batsman James Taylor hopes his move to Nottinghamshire will help him force his way into the England side.

Taylor, who has signed a three-year deal after leaving Leicestershire, has already represented his country in a full one-day international.

But the England Lions captain feels playing in Division One of the County Championship will enhance his claims.

"It's a great opportunity to show the selectors what I can do," the 21-year-old told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"It's a new challenge and new opportunity to show people what I can do in the top flight playing playing first division cricket against the best bowlers in the world.

"Trent Bridge is one of the best venues for Test cricket in the country and an amazing place to play cricket.

"I have some fond memories of playing here for Leicestershire, I'm raring to go and cannot wait to get out there and bat in the middle."

Taylor played a key role as the Foxes won this summer's FL t20 competition, beating Somerset in the final at Edgbaston.

He said quitting Grace Road was not a decision he took lightly and was quick to express his gratitude for the huge part Leicestershire have played in his development.

"I had a month or two to think about things and weigh up my options but in the end it was an obvious choice to come to Trent Bridge," Taylor said.

"I had four great years at Leicestershire and would like to say a massive thank you to all those guys there who helped me and brought me along to this point in my career. They gave me the opportunity and I wouldn't be here without them."

But the next chapter of Taylor's career begins in 2012, starting with skippering a 16-man England Lions squad for their tour of Bangladesh in January.

And then the diminutive batsman will be focusing on playing for his new county.

He added: "I want to keep improving, working on many different aspects of my game and I am hoping bring more silverware to Nottingham.

"We have a great mix of youth and experience and some great players in the squad."
