Phil Jaques joins Yorkshire on UK passport

Jaques previously played for Yorkshire in 2004 and 2005

Yorkshire have signed Australian opening batsman Phil Jaques.

The 32-year-old, born in New South Wales to English parents, has retired from first-class cricket in his homeland in order to join the Tykes on a UK passport.

"I have made this decision with my family in mind," the left-hander told the Cricket New South Wales website.

"I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my career. I walk away with no regrets."

Jaques, who played 11 Tests for Australia, has also had spells in county cricket with Worcestershire and Northants.

He had originally agreed to return to Headingley, where he played in 2004 and 2005, as Yorkshire's overseas player.

Jaques added: "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time playing cricket for New South Wales and Australia and have always considered it a privilege.

"I hope to remain involved with Cricket NSW in some capacity in the future."
