Australian seam bowler Steve Magoffin said he was delighted to put in a match-winning performance on his Sussex debut.

The 32-year-old Australian took figures of 9-55 to help the side to victory over county champions Lancashire.

He told BBC Sussex: "I've always wanted to come back and play in England since leaving Worcestershire.

"It was great to contribute in my first game for Sussex and have a good performance."

Magoffin, who left Worcestershire in 2008, joined Sussex at the start of the month and will remain at Hove until June.

The seamer says he could extend his stay if everything fits in well with Queensland, his state side in Australia.

"To get the opportunity is great," he added.

"Sussex came to me and said I was the type of bowler they'd been looking for.

"I felt playing on beyond the end of the Australian summer would be beneficial for me, to keep some momentum going.

"Whether I am able to stay a little bit longer beyond the Twenty20s, we'll just wait see."
