County Championship Division Two, Swalec Stadium, day two (close):

Essex 259-9 v Glamorgan 1-0

Glamorgan 3pts, Essex 2pts

Essex and Glamorgan endured a miserable day in the dressing rooms at Cardiff as rain and bad light prevented any play.

With Glamorgan set to resume on 1-0 in reply to Essex's 259-9, umpires Peter Hartley and Jeff Evans hoped to make a start at 1620 BST.

It would have allowed 35 overs to be bowled before the close, but the light closed in as the teams warmed up.

The players returned to the pavilion and having seen no improvement, play was eventually called off at 1725 BST.
