Glamorgan fast bowler Simon Jones wants more four-day cricket

Ex-England fast bowler Simon Jones has not ruled out playing more County Championship for Glamorgan if he comes through unscathed against Derbyshire.

Jones bowled 17 wicket-less overs on Thursday - his first Championship bowl for Glamorgan in five years.

The 2005 Ashes hero was re-signed by the Welsh county primarily as a one-day bowler, but enjoys the four-day game.

"If I can get through the game with no injury or niggles I'd love to play [more four-day games]," said Jones.

"I don't see why not."

Jones, who has been ravaged by knee problems since he won the last of his 18 England caps, played just one Championship game for Hampshire last April before re-signing for Glamorgan in October 2011.

Jones got the chance to play four-day cricket again, something he has not done for Glamorgan since August 2007, because both Graham Wagg (broken ankle) and James Harris (groin) are sidelined.

"I didn't get the opportunity as much as I wanted at Hampshire because Dominic Cork was in charge and he had his ideas," added 33-year-old Jones.

"So it was just one of those things. I had to take it on the chin and get on with it.

"This [playing against Derbyshire] is an opportunity to get some miles in my legs and get some bowling done and get some rhythm.

"[In the] 17 overs I bowled quick and I hit [the wicket-keeper's] gloves hard."
