Northants batsman Cameron White hopes for T20 impact

Northants batsman Cameron White says he hopes to make an impact at the top of the order for the team.

The 28-year-old Australian arrives at Wantage Road having captained the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League, scoring 479 runs in 13 matches.

White told BBC Northampton: "Whatever sort of role David Capel and Andrew Hall want me to play, I'm happy to do.

"Hopefully it's at the top of the order but anywhere up there is fine. The earlier you can get in, the better."

He added: "When you're looking at these opportunities [to join a new club], you ask around.

"Chris Rogers was a great player here for Northants, so I asked him lots of questions and here I am."

Northants wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien says that the team are excited to have White in their ranks.

"He's done a fantastic job for Deccan Chargers in the IPL. I've watched him play some really good cricket," said O'Brien.

"What he'll bring is a lot of experience. He's captained his country and Somerset, so he knows English cricket really well.

"Most importantly, he'll bring firepower to the middle of the order. He's a huge hitter of the ball and we need people who can hit sixes.

"But I think he'll also bring calmness with the bat."

Meanwhile, head coach David Capel says the injury problems at the club are lessening.

He said: "David Sales is making some good progress and within the next ten days or so he'll start to play cricket.

"Jack Brooks and Chaminda Vaas both played in the last Championship game and both of them are champing at the bit to get going."

Northants play Glamorgan in their opening T20 match on Thursday, 14 June.
