Gloucestershire secure quarter-final place

Gloucestershire beat Northants by eight wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis method to reach the FL t20 quarter-finals.

Victory for the visitors lifted them to second in the group and they now travel to Sussex in the last eight.

The hosts slipped to 31-4 mid-way through the ninth over before rain curtailed their innings, Ian Saxelby taking 2-6 in two overs.

The Gladiators needed only 14 balls to reach their revised target of 23 in five overs.

Gloucestershire coach Richard Dawson told BBC Gloucestershire:

"When we started this season we wanted to improve as a team.

"But we're in a performance business so to win a few games and get to the quarters, that's what we strive to do.

"We had a lot to prove. Maybe we've been underestimated at times but we've actually played some really good cricket.

"We've beaten some good sides as well so it's been outstanding."

Northants captain Alex Wakely told BBC Northampton:

"[The game] pretty much summed up our Twenty20 campaign.

"Right from the start we weren't quite good enough - in crucial moments against Somerset and Warwickshire.

"David Capel going hasn't been easy for a few of the guys but we've got a week to prepare and move forward.

"There's a lot of talent coming through and I think the club's in a good position going forward."
