Ireland's Twenty20 series against South Africa A rained off

Ireland's four-game Twenty20 series against South Africa A has been cancelled after Monday's match at Oak Hill was abandoned because of rain.

The remaining three games were called off with more rain predicted for the rest of the week, and the Proteas' second string have opted to fly home.

"It is not a decision we have taken lightly," said South Africa A coach Vincent Barnes.

"We wanted to give the players a chance to prepare for the ICC World Twenty20."

The decision caps a frustrating tour for both sides, with the weather taking its toll throughout the month-long trip.

Cricket Ireland Chief Executive Warren Deutrom was pragmatic about the decision.

"It goes without saying that we are disappointed for everyone, not least the players of both sides and the hosting venues of Malahide and Oak Hill that have put in so much effort but have been ultimately defeated by the awful weather," he said.
