Greg Smith scored an unbeaten 47 for Leicestershire against Gloucestershire as honours were even on day one of their Division Two game at Grace Road.

Gloucestershre's innings never really got going and, after slipping to 71-4, Ian Cockbain (48) and Hamish Marshall (47) pushed them to 234 all out.

Claude Henderson returned figures of 3-32, while Nathan Buck, Jigar Naik and Shiv Thakor took two wickets each.

Smith and Ned Eckersley (25) helped the hosts close 140 runs behind on 94-3.
