David Houghton has signed a one-year deal to remain as Derbyshire's batting coach for the 2013 season.
The 55-year-old former Zimbabwe captain was head of cricket at Derbyshire between 2003 and 2007, external and rejoined as a specialist batting coach in 2011.
Houghton played a key part in helping the club win the Division Two County Championship title last season.
"David is a premium, top-level batting coach who commands a great deal of respect," said head coach Karl Krikken.
"For our talented young batsmen to once again be able to tap into his experience, knowledge and expertise will be of great benefit to both the individual players and the club as a whole as we embark upon the challenge of Division One cricket."
