Warwickshire skipper Jim Troughton awarded benefit

County Championship title-winning skipper Jim Troughton has been granted a benefit year by Warwickshire in 2013.

"Jim Troughton has been a fantastic servant and a great ambassador for Warwickshire cricket since joining the professional staff in 2001," said Bears director of cricket Ashley Giles.

"Being awarded a benefit is just reward for his hard work and dedication.

"Well-liked and hugely respected, Jim represents everything we stand for at Warwickshire," added Giles.

"His leadership of the side was instrumental in bringing home the Bears' seventh County Championship title."

Troughton who has been affiliated with the county since the age of 11, made his first-class debut for the Bears in 2001.

He has been part of four trophy-winning sides - the 2002 Benson & Hedges Cup in 2002, the CB40 in 2010 and two County Championships in 2004 and 2012 - and also won six one-day caps for England in 2003.

"Winning the Championship this season has been a fantastic achievement and one I will cherish for the rest of my life.

"It's been a childhood dream come true to be captain of the club. I hope I can continue to lead us to even more success in 2013," said Troughton.

"I've played with many outstanding players during my time with the club, and the current squad has great potential to dominate county cricket over the years to come."
