Surrey have appointed Stuart Barnes as their full-time fast bowling coach.

The 42-year-old will join the club next month after leaving Gloucestershire, where he has been on the coaching staff for 15 years.

Barnes will replace Martin Bicknell, who has moved into the role of chief scout at The Oval.

Team director Chris Adams said: "Stuart is a fantastic appointment for the club and is regarded as one of the finest bowling coaches in the country."

He added: "He will be a very positive addition to both the coaching team and the dressing room."

Barnes says he is excited about the challenge which lies ahead at Surrey.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed working as fast bowling coach for Gloucestershire in the last few years," he said.

"I have really enjoyed coming into work every day and finding ways to make a positive difference to the coaching team and the playing staff.

"The amount of fast bowling talent at Surrey has been a massive attraction for me.

"Looking at the variety of talent I'm going to have available to me, we've got all our bases covered and I am looking forward to having a positive effect on every single one of them."
