Somerset's Jos Buttler earns England increment contract

Somerset wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has been awarded an England increment contract following the one-day international win over New Zealand.

"It reflects the contribution Jos has made over the last five months," said national selector Geoff Miller.

Buttler earned the deal after making his 10th appearance in Twenty20 and one-day formats since the eight-wicket win against New Zealand on 1 October.

The 22-year-old has yet to make his Test debut for England.

Non-contracted players earn increment contracts, which are appearance-based and a step down from central deals, through a points system.

Buttler has played six T20 games and four one-day internationals since the England Cricket Board's contract period started on 1 October last year.

He scored 54 off 30 balls in England's second T20 match against New Zealand last week, although England still fell to a 55-run defeat.

Yorkshire batsman Joe Root, 22, was handed an incremental contract after Sunday's first one-day international defeat by New Zealand.
