Glamorgan v Worcestershire: Welsh county wrap up victory

Glamorgan made short work of Worcestershire on the final day at Cardiff to register their first Championship victory of the new season.

The visitors were only able to survive 10.1 overs on the final morning, soon losing Thilan Samaraweera, who gave a return catch on 79 to Michael Hogan.

They were all out for 207, with all-rounder Jim Allenby taking 4-27.

It left Glamorgan only needing 36 for victory and Ben Wright led the way with 30 not out as they won by 10 wickets.

Worcestershire's hopes of escape rested on former Sri Lanka Test star Samaraweera batting for most of the day, but he went in the fifth over of play, having added only eight to his overnight score.

The rest subsided quickly, with Allenby claiming three wickets before Hogan finished things off by having Gareth Andrew caught by fellow Australian Marcus North for figures of 3-61, and Wright and Will Bragg knocked off the runs required in 9.1 overs.

The win was Glamorgan's first over Worcestershire at Cardiff since 1971.

"Glamorgan took only an hour and a half to record their first win of the season after their bowlers had taken the last five Worcestershire wickets for just 21 runs.

"Thilan Samaraweera went for 79, a superb caught and bowled by Michael Hogan, and the tail collapsed to Hogan and Jim Allenby.

"Allenby had the excellent figures of 4-27 from 20 overs, while Hogan ended with seven wickets in the match.

"Glamorgan needed just 36 to win and they knocked off the runs in nine overs with Ben Wright 30 not out."
