The Ashes: Durham expand ground capacity for Test match

Durham chief executive David Harker has said around 5,500 extra seats will be in place in time for August's fourth Ashes Test match against Australia.

Their Chester-le-Street ground will be expanded using money loaned by the County Council and North East Local Enterprise Partnership.

"It'll be in place certainly for the Ashes," Harker told BBC Newcastle.

"[The money] enabled us to push forward with a deal to secure some seating which had been used at the Olympics."

Foundation plates are being installed at the venue to ensure the stand will be erected safely.

"I'm assured it can be done," Harker added. "The nature of the structure and construction means it can be done speedily.

"We've got to look for value, and we've worked with the company before with temporary seating.

"This configuration will give us better leg-room and views than we've been able to enjoy with temporary seats."
