Worcestershire sign Andre Russell to replace Jacob Oram

Worcestershire have signed West Indian Andre Russell for this year's FL t20 to replace the injured Jacob Oram.

The 34-year-old Kiwi all-rounder was due to make his debut on 28 June, but has been forced to return to New Zealand to undergo a hernia operation.

And Worcestershire have wasted no time in bringing in 25-year-old Russell, who has been playing in the Indian Premier League with Delhi Daredevils.

"I have always wanted to play county cricket," said Jamaica-born Russell.

"Having previously experienced some time at Worcestershire practising with the squad I am very much looking forward to playing in the T20."

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Losing Jacob Oram to an injury is naturally a blow but this has been softened by the signing of Andre Russell.

"If he connects with the middle of his bat there are few grounds big enough."

Oram added: "I'm extremely disappointed to miss out on the opportunity to represent Worcestershire.

"I have never played county cricket before so I was really looking forward to the experience. Hopefully I can fulfil my county cricket playing ambition next season."
