County Championship Division Two, Cardiff

Close, day one: Hampshire 274-5 v Glamorgan

Hampshire 2 pts, Glamorgan 1 pt

James Vince and Liam Dawson shared a century stand as Hampshire made 274-5 on day one of their game against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

After a solid start by Michael Carberry (31) and James Adams (47), the visitors slipped from 76-0 to 118-3.

Vince hit a six and 11 fours, adding 132 with Dawson, before falling lbw to Australian seamer Michael Hogan (2-44).

Dawson, however, survived to reach the close on 69 not out after almost four and a quarter hours at the crease.

Both sides have only won one Championship game so far this season and need to start putting together a run of positive results to have any hope of making a late charge for the Division Two promotion places.

It was hard work for the Glamorgan attack in sweltering conditions, but they stuck to their task gamely to keep the run-rate in check and, after finally breaking the Vince-Dawson partnership, they received an extra boost when Sean Ervine edged Jim Allenby to second slip for a duck.
