Kent 173-3 (20 overs) beat Sussex 164-6 (20 overs) by nine runs

Kent kept alive their slim hopes of reaching the last eight of the FLt20 as they handed 2009 winners Sussex their eighth defeat in nine matches.

Darren Stevens (67no) and opener Fabian Cowdrey (40) saw Kent post a target of 173-3 in front of a near 4,000 crowd.

But, needing more than 20 off the last over at Canterbury, Sussex's challenge faded when Scott Styris was dismissed.

The Kiwi was caught on the deep midwicket boundary off the fourth ball as Sussex finished on 164-6.

It was only Kent's second South Group win, taking them above Sussex, who are anchored at the bottom, but they still have three matches left - against Surrey at The Oval on Friday night, group leaders Hampshire at Canterbury on Monday night and a return match with Sussex at Hove two nights later.
