Former coach Matthew Maynard closing in on Glamorgan return

Matthew Maynard says he is still finalising details of a return to Glamorgan in a part time capacity.

The former England batsman spent three seasons on the Welsh county's management before leaving in 2010.

Maynard is looking forward to linking up with former team-mate Hugh Morris, now the county's chief executive and managing director.

"He was keen to get me back involved," Maynard said.

Morris has left his role as England's managing director to take up a dual role with Glamorgan while former Middlesex and Sussex batsman Toby Radford has been appointed head coach.

Maynard captained Glamorgan to the County Championship in 1997 and scored nearly 25,000 first-class runs for the county.

He later became Glamorgan's director of cricket but resigned in 2010 following Colin Metson's appointment as head of cricket.

The 47-year-old has been taking a break from cricket after his son - Surrey batsman Tom - died aged 23 in 2012 in an accident at a London train station.

"I didn't want a full time position - it's not right for me at this stage," Maynard told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"But he [Morris] was still keen nonetheless to get me involved and after that I met with the new head coach Toby Radford, who is also keen to utilise me in some way.

"We'll have a meeting later this month to decide how and when [to] best use me.

"But I've made myself available. I still love the club, always have done and always will do.

"If I can help the new regime in any way then I'd be delighted to do so."
