Steven Finn promises to 'come back stronger' from tour

Paceman Steven Finn has promised to "come back stronger" as he prepares to leave England's tour of Australia.

England one-day coach Ashley Giles confirmed on Wednesday the 24-year-old would be returning home early to "work on technical aspects of his game".

Finn was overlooked for selection during the 5-0 Ashes whitewash and the start of the one-day series.

"At times, it's felt like I've been banging my head against a brick wall, trying to make it right," said Finn.

Finn trained with his team-mates for a final time on Thursday before returning to London as they prepared for their one-day international with Australia in Brisbane on Friday (03:20 GMT).

In an interview with the England and Wales Cricket Board's website, he said he was looking forward to returning to work with coaches at Middlesex, including director of cricket Angus Fraser.

He said: "I've worked very hard on this tour, put lots of hours in to try to work on my bowling action and I arrived very confident I could play a full part in the Ashes series.

"As the tour went on, it became clear there's a couple of technical issues I need to address.

"The decision was made between Ashley Giles and Angus Fraser that going home and working on these aspects of my game would be the best place for me to do it."

Finn is the third England player to return home before the end of the tour, after problems with his bowling action had left him "not selectable".

It follows the early departures of Jonathan Trott with a stress-related illness after the first Test and Graeme Swann, who announced his retirement before the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

"Angus Fraser was right in what he said, I do need to fall back in love with bowling again," added Finn.

"I do love the game, but at times it's been hard to love it because I've been fighting myself so much. That's been a contributory factor to everything not going so well on this tour.

"It's tough for me to be leaving as I want to be out here helping England win games of cricket and I'm gutted I'm not part of that. But I think it's better that I go home."

Finn has been included in England's provisional 30-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20, which starts in mid-March.
