Northamptonshire limited-overs captain Alex Wakely is likely to miss the 2014 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

The 25-year-old was hurt in the first T20 match of a pre-season tour in Barbados at the weekend and now requires surgery.

The batsman averaged 29.30 on the way to guiding Northants to the FLt20 title last season.

"It's not good. It's sad news for the player and the club," chief executive David Smith told BBC Radio Northampton.

"He's obviously disappointed but also having to be resilient. It's professional sport and these things happen."
