Glamorgan v Worcestershire: Mitchell makes second ton

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell hit his second century of the match to manoeuvre the visitors into a winning position against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

After the Division Two leaders resumed on 20-0, Mitchell followed up his first-day 109 with 151 not out before declaring on 296-6, a lead of 381.

Gareth Andrew then bowled Jacques Rudolph as the hosts closed on 14-1.

Mitchell received his chief support from Notts loan signing Alex Hales (63) in a third-wicket stand of 134.

That was England's winter Twenty20 star Hales' highest first-class score for two seasons.

Mitchell's 17th first-class ton was his third in four games this season following his unbeaten 172 against Hampshire in this season's opening match.

The visiting skipper's efforts helped him become the first player in English county cricket past 500 first-class runs this summer.

He now has an aggregate of 532 from four matches, in just four completed innings, giving him an average of 133.

In the afternoon session, Dean Cosker claimed the wickets of Hales, stumped after giving the Glamorgan spinner the charge, and Alexei Kervezee for a rapid 32.

After a rain break, the 36-year-old spinner added two more to add to his five-wicket first-innings haul for match figures of 9-133.

"Another fine effort from Daryl Mitchell. Probably a little more flowing than his first-innings knock, as the shackles began to come off but, so far, he's been on the field for every minute of the game. A great effort from the skipper.

"Worcestershire's declaration plans were altered by the rain that came down at tea and, with 27 overs lost on Monday, they have given themselves a chance of forcing victory.

"Alex Hales, who looks to have batted himself into form, would have been annoyed with the way he got out, while Kervezee's quickfire innings was out of context with much of the rest of the game.

"Not too many plusses for Glamorgan so far. Dean Cosker has again shown that he is still worth a look at for international honours and Graeme Wagg bowled well in the morning session.

"But, if Worcestershire get back on, Saeed Ajmal could be a handful."
