England captain Alastair Cook missed Sunday's second one-day international against Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street with a groin injury.

The Essex batsman, 29, suffered tightness in his right groin and failed a fitness test on Sunday morning.

Hampshire's Michael Carberry, 33, took his place with Twenty20 specialist Alex Hales, 25, missing out and Eoin Morgan taking over as captain.

Hales was called into the squad on Saturday when Cook's injury arose.
