Hampshire have failed to win more than four matches in any of the last three season

Hampshire captain Jimmy Adams believes three more Championship victories will be enough to secure promotion.

A 470-run victory against Essex on Tuesday, the club's largest ever by a runs margin, was their fourth in Division Two this season.

Adams' side are yet to lose a match and currently top Division Two by a single point over Worcestershire.

"There are seven games to go and if we can win three, I'm sure we'll be thereabouts," he told BBC Radio Solent.

Hampshire were relegated from Division One in 2011, finishing bottom after failing to win until their 11th match.

However, with 23-year-old James Vince scoring a double century to become the first county batsman to reach 1,000 runs this season, there is a belief the team are capable of taking the step up.

"We've played some very good cricket for just over half a season, but there's going to be some point in the season where things don't run our way," Adams added.

"I think we've got the quality and the confidence now to play enough good cricket and I'd like to think we have enough in the tank."
