Patrick Grieshaber: Gloucestershire teen handed debut

Gloucestershire called upon a 17-year-old schoolboy to play in their four-day game with Glamorgan because of their wicketkeeper injury crisis.

Patrick Grieshaber was due to play for Downend on Saturday when he received a late call from the Division Two side.

Gloucestershire are without Gareth Roderick, Cameron Herring and loan player Geraint Jones.

"The club said there was a call for me, I thought it would be my parents," said academy player Grieshaber.

"But it was academy boss Owen Dawkins telling me I was due to play down here because Cameron had hurt his finger.

"I was told at the start of the year that I would be pretty close to the team because of the injuries, so I knew I was in with a shout."

Grieshaber came in to bat at number nine and scored 10 runs off 44 balls before being bowled by Dean Cosker, as Gloucestershire finished 391 all out.

On day three, Glamorgan resumed on 209-2 with Grieshaber behind the stumps.

Gloucestershire are now set to look for another loan keeper, with Herring likely to be out for weeks with the broken finger he suffered in Saturday's warm-up.

Roderick has been sidelined since 21 May with a similar injury while Jones has returned to Kent a week early because of an eye problem.
