T20 Blast: Somerset beat Hampshire as Kieswetter shines

Kieswetter is second in the leading run scorer list in the T20 Blast competition this year, trailing Surrey's Jason Roy by 13 runs

Craig Kieswetter hit an aggressive 60 to set Somerset up for a 39-run T20 Blast victory over Hampshire.

Kieswetter shared stands of 55 with both Peter Trego (25) and Alviro Petersen (38 not out) as the visitors finished their innings on 155-4.

Hampshire captain James Vince was trapped lbw by Trego (2-24) for a duck with the third ball of their reply.

Matt Coles provided some resistance with 25 off 19 balls, but they were all out for 116 in the 17th over.

The victory was Somerset's fourth in the competition and they are fifth in the South group table; Hampshire remaining second with a record of seven wins and four losses from their 11 games.

Somerset captain Marucs Trescothick:

"We were brilliant with the ball. We got early wickets and really put Hampshire on the back foot.

"Run-outs kill you and we got two big players that way in the same over. To lose Maxwell and Carberry in five balls that way knocked the stuffing out of them and in the end it was a very good win."

Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein:

"There is no getting away from it, this was a poor performance. We simply did not switch on.

"With the run-outs, you just cannot plan for that sort of thing and it was always going to be tough recovering from them.

"We felt we had done well to keep them to 155, although it has to be said that getting eight an over was always going to be tough."
