T20 Blast: Home tie for Surrey despite defeat by Kent

Surrey will host Worcestershire in the T20 Blast quarter-finals despite a 21-run defeat by Kent Spitfires, who miss out on a knockout spot.

Darren Stevens smashed seven sixes in a 38-ball 67 as Kent posted 175-7.

Surrey's Tillakaratne Dilshan made 46 and Kevin Pietersen hit 32 off 31 balls, before he was caught by Stevens off James Tredwell (2-35).

Kent, who had an outside chance of a place in the final eight, restricted Surrey to 154-7.

Glamorgan's eight-wicket victory over Gloucestershire ensured they claimed the final quarter-final spot by finishing fourth in the South Group.

Surrey head coach Graham Ford:

"It was always going to be a big ask to come off a tough four-day game and then play two T20 games in a row straight after.

"I'm happy that the boys have managed to achieve what they have in this competition. The first goal was to qualify, the second goal to get a home quarter-final and hopefully we can reach the third goal and get to finals day.

"In this match, Darren Stevens played a brilliant innings for Kent, which made it a pretty heavy chase. For a while we were in there, but it was probably just a little bit too big a chase."
