Close, day one: Gloucestershire 179 v Kent 83-4

Kent 3pts; Gloucestershire 0pts

Gloucestershire's decision to bat first backfired as they were bowled out for 179 by Kent on day one at Canterbury.

Mitchell Claydon (5-61) and Darren Stevens (3-45) combined to reduce the visitors to a desperate 62-8 at lunch.

However, a vital ninth-wicket partnership of 90 between Craig Miles (48) and David Payne (54 not out) gave Gloucestershire some runs to defend.

In reply Kent slipped to 47-4, with top run-scorer Daniel Bell-Drummond run out, before reaching 83-4 at stumps.
