England captain Eoin Morgan says he will have a different approach to the role than predecessor Alastair Cook.

Cook, 30, was replaced by Morgan after England lost a fourth one-day series in row with a recent defeat in Sri Lanka.

"There will be certain things Alastair would do that I wouldn't just because it is his character and mine," said 28-year-old Morgan.

"When I've captained in the past I've tended to strip things back to the basics. That's my method."

Morgan's first game in charge will be against an Australian Capital Territory XI, starting at 23:00 GMT on Sunday, as England prepare for a tri-series with Australia and India.

England will also take on a Prime Minister's XI on Wednesday before facing Australia on Friday.

The tri-series will be used as a warm-up for the World Cup, which takes place in Australia and New Zealand between 14 February and 29 March.

The experienced Ian Bell will replace opener Cook against the ACT X1 as opposed to Alex Hales, who only made his 50-over international debut last summer, with Morgan not planning a major overhaul of his side in the belief there is growing confidence in the England camp.

"I don't think it [the side] will differ in a huge amount," Morgan said.

"Over the last seven or eight months I think we've seen a considerable change in the method that we've used both batting and bowling.

"That will continue to go in the same direction and guys will be encouraged to play with freedom."

He added: "The excitement within the group is high, and guys are quietly confident.

"We've had a difficult time over the last 12 months, but I think the individual world-class performances we've put in at stages gives guys a lot of belief and it gives me a lot of confidence coming into these three months."
