Adam Lyth: Yorkshire batsman extends contract

Yorkshire batsman Adam Lyth has signed a three-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old left-hander is currently on tour with the England Lions in South Africa after helping the White Rose club to the 2014 County Championship title.

He scored 1,489 runs at an average of 67.68, including six hundreds, and was named Championship Player of the Year.

"It has been an incredible year for me and I just want to keep on improving," he told the club website.

"To play for this club is very special and to contribute to our recent success is why we play.

"I dream of winning trophies for Yorkshire and after winning the Championship, I firmly believe this will be first of many."

Lyth, whose new deal will run until the end of 2018, is hoping for a call-up to England's senior squad for the tour to the West Indies, which begins in April and features three Tests.

However, county teammate Alex Lees, Middlesex's Sam Robson, who was Alastair Cook's opening partner in Test cricket last summer, and Jonathan Trott could also come into contention when the selectors meet to pick the squad for the Caribbean.
