Glamorgan: Hugh Morris 'open minded' on domestic changes

Glamorgan chief executive Hugh Morris says the county must embrace an Australian-style Big Bash 20-over competition if it is introduced into the domestic game.

Ex-England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Morris had doubted that the introduction of franchises and a reduced number of sides from the T20 Blast format was the way forward.

But he now says he is "open-minded.

"We've got to look at opportunities to enhance our game," he said.

Morris's comments come after a leaked ECB discussion document renewed the debate over franchises.

Incoming ECB chairman Colin Graves wants an English Premier League to boost crowds.

Glamorgan hope the development of the Swalec Stadium into a Test arena would put them in a position to host one of the franchises if the upheaval does happen.

"If there are changes we need to be in a position to respond to those changes," added Morris, a former Glamorgan captain.

"I think we're well positioned to do that on the playing side, we've got really good young players coming through.

"As a club we're ambitious, we want to be back at the top table."

Glamorgan have only qualified once for finals day of the T20 competition in 2004, losing their quarter-final away to Lancashire by one run in 2014.
