County Championship: Glamorgan pair hit tons against Leics

Will Bragg was 113 not out against Leicestershire at Grace Road

Glamorgan dominated the opening day of the season at Leicestershire, thanks to centuries from captain Jacques Rudolph and Will Bragg in a stand of 227.

Rudolph made the most of being dropped on nought and 68 as he struck 111 runs off 190 balls, including 15 fours.

Bragg beat his best first-class score of 110, also against Leicestershire, before bad light and rain ended play.

Paceman Atif Sheikh took both wickets as home captain Mark Cosgrove used seven bowlers against his former side.

Rudolph's opening-day century was the earliest County Championship ton for Glamorgan, beating the one by Mark Wallace on 18 April in 2004.

Glamorgan's previous best second-wicket stand against Leicestershire was 173 by Peter Walker and Alan Jones at Ebbw Vale in 1965, matched by Dan Cherry and David Hemp at Leicester in 2006.

Leicestershire captain Mark Cosgrove said: "We thought that the pitch may deteriorate and keep a bit low, and in the early season the five quicks would normally do the job.

"Atif bowled really quickly, he just has to learn to control it a bit, but he was fantastic, he bowled with pace and that's what we want him to do.

"Nobody wants to drop a catch, but good players make you pay when you do, and Rudolph did that."

Glamorgan batsman Will Bragg said: "I haven't scored the hundreds I should have with my ability.

"I do the hard yards, usually, then fall by the wayside in the 70s and 80s. Hopefully now there'll be many more hundreds to come.

"The ball was moving around a bit early on and I tried to play within myself. I didn't really look at the scoreboard, but things went pretty well."
