County Championship: Glamorgan hold edge against Leicestershire

Michael Hogan was the most effective Glamorgan bowler, keeping Leicestershire in check

Glamorgan recovered from a shocking start to their second innings to open up an 89-run lead over Leicestershire at stumps on day two in Cardiff.

Having been bowled out for 253, despite 50 by Matthew Boyce, Leicestershire ripped into Glamorgan's top order.

William Bragg and Ben Wright were both out for ducks as the hosts slid to 1-2.

But Jacques Rudolph (14 not out) and Colin Ingram (38 not out) steadied their nerves to put Glamorgan in a healthy position on 64-2 at the close.

Earlier in the day, paceman Michael Hogan was the pick of Glamorgan's bowlers, taking 3-54 as Leicestershire lost wickets at regular intervals.

Their top nine all reached double figures, but skipper Mark Cosgrove (38) was unhappy to be given out caught at short-leg off Andrew Salter, and no-one was able to make a major score before the last three wickets went for just 10 runs.

The visitors then rocked the Welsh county, however, when Bragg was caught behind off Ben Raine, and then Wright followed him back to the pavilion without scoring, but Ingram and Rudolph stopped the rot as they saw out the final 19 overs.

Glamorgan pace bowler Andy Carter told BBC Radio Wales Sport:

"We need to push on and bat for as long as possible, and probably have an hour (bowling) at them tomorrow night.

"We should be 350 ahead or something like that, it's a good wicket but we think it's going to get lower and slower.

"I like it down here (on loan from Notts), I want to contribute to winning this game and then three more games."
