Andy Carter: Glamorgan bowler eyeing big third day target

Fast bowler Andy Carter is hoping Glamorgan can set Leicestershire a target of around 350 by late on day three of their championship match.

Glamorgan recovered from one for two in their second innings to reach 64 for two at the close, a lead of 89 runs.

"We need to push on and bat for as long as possible and probably have an hour (bowling) at them in the night," said Carter.

"We should be 350 ahead or something like that."

Carter added: "It's a good wicket but we think it's going to get lower and slower" Carter told BBC Wales."

He claimed two for 29 in 15.4 overs in the first game of his second loan spell with Glamorgan from Nottinghamshire, taking his tally to 14 so far in four matches.

Leicestershire lost their last five wickets for just 33 runs in the afternoon as they were bowled out for 253, but Carter expected the slide to happen.

"I try to do what I'm paid to do, hitting an area over and over again, and if I pick up wickets or the other lads do, you've got to work as a unit," Carter added.

"I think once you've got rid of their (Leicestershire's) top five and into the rest of them, you can get them out very quickly."

Carter is pleased to be back in first-team action after not featuring for Nottinghamshire in his spell back at his parent club.

"I like it down here, I want to contribute to winning this game and then three more games," he said.

"Glamorgan made the approach and I was happy to come back, they've won three games while I wasn't here so I don't know why they wanted me.

"It's obviously to help share the (fast-bowling) workload and all the lads are quietly confident we can push on."

In the meantime Carter can celebrate a personal record with his last-wicket stand of 78 on the first day with Graham Wagg being the largest he's taken part in at county level.

"I talked him through it and he was starving me of the strike" he joked. "I don't know how many we would have put on if I'd been facing more balls."

Carter is now hoping to be in Notts' T20 Blast squad this weekend before a few days off and his next appearance for Glamorgan away to Derbyshire starting on July 6th.

But Glamorgan will have to wait to have any chance of overhauling Surrey after they crushed Derbyshire by 222 runs to earn twenty points from the match and stay second.
