County Championship: Lancashire edge closer to victory

Lancashire require five more wickets on the final day to complete victory over Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay.

Number 11 batsman Michael Hogan (57) top-scored as the hosts were bowled out for 348 in their first innings, still 350 runs behind.

Following on, Glamorgan lost openers Jacques Rudolph and Will Bragg to Kyle Jarvis in the space of eight balls.

Simon Kerrigan (2-26) removed Mark Wallace late on as Glamorgan ended the day 146-5, trailing by 204 runs.

Earlier, Wallace had been bowled by Glen Chapple (4-62) for 41 in the sixth over of the morning, but Lancashire, who posted 698-5 declared in their first innings, found Glamorgan's lower order a much tougher proposition.

The home side's last four batsmen all passed 40, a figure that only Wallace in the top seven could achieve.

Arron Lilley (3-113) finally made the decisive breakthrough for the Division Two leaders in the afternoon, forcing last man Hogan to edge to slip, but not before the Australian had registered a career-best 57 off 44 balls.

Chris Cooke (43 not out) and David Lloyd (34) led Glamorgan's recovery from a poor start to their second innings, but spinners Lilley and Kerrigan both struck in the last hour to all but end the Welsh county's hopes of saving the game.

Glamorgan's Michael Hogan told BBC Sport Wales:

"It's a little bit embarrassing (being top scorer), though it's always nice to get runs.

"(Relying on the lower order) has happened a bit too much - it's happened again when we're five for 140-odd on a pretty decent wicket.

"We're shooting ourselves in the foot in the last month or so, it's something that needs to be addressed."
