Hampshire have signed fast bowler Ryan Stevenson on a deal until the end of the season, after a successful trial.

The 23-year-old was spotted playing for Devon in a Minor Counties match by director of cricket Giles White.

The Torquay-born player has appeared for Hampshire's second team in games against Glamorgan and Kent.

"Hopefully this deal allows me to settle in and hopefully I can impress the coaches over the next two months," Stevenson told the club website., external

"Everyone has been really welcoming since I arrived here. I don't like to think too far ahead and just take each game as it comes."

Before this year, Stevenson only played cricket when it fitted around his golf, which he previously took more seriously.

White played for Devon himself in the early 1990's and has high hopes for his new signing.

"He's sort of gone under the radar - it's been a very accelerated process for him," White told BBC Radio Solent.

"It's all fresh and new for him but let's see where it leads. I think he's got some talent and hopefully he develops into a future Hampshire player."
