Hampshire fast bowler Fidel Edwards has signed a new one-year contract.

The 33-year-old former West Indies paceman has taken 45 County Championship wickets in eight matches this summer at an average of 20.8.

They included a 10-wicket haul in the current game against Notts to boost Hampshire's chances of remaining in Division One next season.

They could secure safety with a victory but only if Yorkshire beat Sussex, who would be relegated instead.

Edwards, who won the last of his 55 Test caps in 2012, also played in seven One-Day Cup and seven T20 Blast matches for the county this season.

"Fidel has always expressed his enjoyment at playing for Hampshire and he was thankful that we showed faith in him to start with," said director of cricket Giles White.

"He adds a different dimension to our bowling attack and this will give the changing room a huge boost going into next season."
