Hampshire leg-spinner Mason Crane has agreed a new two-year contract to run until the end of the 2017 season.

The 18-year old signed a development deal with the club in the summer, but his impressive progress has led to a senior contract at the Ageas Bowl.

"Hopefully I can push on after a good season and cement my place," he said.

Crane will head to Colombo in December, alongside Hants team-mate Brad Taylor, as part of a 16-man England Under-19 squad to face Sri Lanka and India.

His emergence in 2015 has seen him touted as one of England's brightest spin bowling prospects.

He marked his first-team debut with two vital wickets in a Twenty20 victory against Surrey and he later became the youngest Hampshire player to take a five-wicket haul in their County Championship win over Warwickshire in August.

"I've got a busy winter ahead with the England Under-19s and I'm looking forward to playing in different conditions which will hopefully put me in a good place ahead of the new season," Crane told the club website, external.

"I know I need to keep taking wickets and putting in good performances and I'm looking forward to testing myself against the best players in Division One again next year."

Hampshire released spinner Danny Briggs one year early from his contract earlier this month, allowing the 24-year-old to sign for Sussex on a three-year deal.
