One-Day Cup: Head & Leaning hit centuries as Yorkshire thrash Leicestershire

Travis Head and Jack Leaning rewrote the Yorkshire record books as they beat Leicestershire by 191 runs in the One-Day Cup at Grace Road.

Head, making his 50-over debut for the county, hit 175 off 139 balls as the pair put on 274 in 36.3 overs.

Leaning then struck two sixes in the final over to finish on 131 not out as the visitors posted a total of 376-3.

Lewis Hill made an enterprising 55 off 49 for Leicestershire, but they were bowled out for 185 in the 34th over.

The victory was Yorkshire's third from five games played and put them top of North Group, while the winless Foxes remain bottom of the table.

The match began badly for the White Rose when Adam Lyth was run out in the third over after a mix-up with Alex Lees, who was then stumped off Rob Sayer for 32 with the total on 51.

From that point, Head and Leaning dominated the home attack as they surpassed Yorkshire's highest stand in any limited-overs game, beating the unbroken 242 by Martyn Moxon (now the county's director of cricket) and Ashley Metcalfe against Warwickshire in 1990.

Head reached three figures off 99 deliveries and Leaning two fewer, as the pair collected nine sixes and 25 fours between them.

Yorkshire's previous best one-day total against a first-class county of 352-6 against Nottinghamshire in 2001 was also beaten, although Head went caught behind off Kevin O'Brien before that total was reached.

Leicestershire's hopes disappeared as they were reduced to 88-5 in reply and, despite Hill's best efforts, they were way off the pace as leg-spinner Adil Rashid claimed 3-23.

Leicestershire bowler Clint McKay told BBC Radio Leicester:

"The reality is we haven't won a game for two years which is not what we're after, it's very disappointing and well below par for what we're all about.

"We're playing professional cricket, we're here to compete against the best teams, that's what we pride ourselves on.

"We think we've got a very good team that should be competing and beating some of these teams. We're not bringing some of our best cricket to this format at the moment."
