Adam Wheater hit his second first-class century of the season for Hampshire on an even opening day against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Wheater hit 12 fours on his way to a score of 102 before he was out to Imran Tahir as Hampshire collapsed.
His dismissal came as the visitors lost their final five wickets for 39 runs, being bowled out for 319.
Nottinghamshire lost Jake Libby for 11 early on from the bowling of Ryan McLaren as they closed the day on 39-1.
