India: Ajinkya Rahane to captain for inaugural Test against Afghanistan

Batsman Ajinkya Rahane will take charge of India for their inaugural Test match against Afghanistan in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli.

Kohli is unavailable as he will be playing for Surrey in June to prepare for the Test series against England, which begins on 1 August.

The Test against Afghanistan begins on 14 June in Bangalore.

The 29-year-old will return for India's limited-overs series against Ireland and England from 27 June.

However, although Kohli is in the squad for the Ireland matches at Malahide on 27 and 29 June, Surrey have stated, external that he will be available for their County Championship match against Yorkshire at Scarborough on 25-28 June.

India will play three Twenty20 matches and three one-day games against England before the five-Test series begins.
